Nils Schmadtke has left VfL Wolfsburg to return to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 34-year-old, who had been head of scouting at the Wolves since autumn 2020, has accepted the role as sporting director of the professional squad at Gladbach.
“We greatly appreciated working with Nils but we respect his desire to take the next step in his career,” said VfL managing director Marcel Schäfer. “We wish him every success in his new challenge, all the best both personally and professionally, and express our thanks for a very pleasant and very successful time together.”
Schmadtke joined VfL in October 2020 having previously been part of Gladbach’s scouting department. “I’m grateful for two and a half really wonderful years in Wolfsburg, during which I was able to meet a lot of great people. I always approached my tasks at VfL with great joy and passion. Now, however, the time has come for a change and I’m grateful to everyone involved for the chance to further my development once again.”
