Head coach Ole Werner: “It was clear to see that we had players on the pitch who were finding their feet again after spells on the sidelines. We were lacking consistency today, which is why we struggled to pose any kind of threat. The result isn’t the be-all and end-all in a friendly, but nevertheless, you want to win and play better football than we did today. As a whole, we didn’t put in a good team performance.”
Head of professional football Clemens Fritz: “We started well, but then made too many basic errors. We also didn’t commit enough, which is why Hannover 96 ultimately deserved to win today. If you don’t play with determination, games against second-division sides get much trickier. We’ve got to make sure that we step up our game when we’re back in Bundesliga action. Nobody’s going home happy today.”
Amos Pieper: “There was a lot of space for us to play, but nothing came of our chances. It wasn’t a case of being more prepared today – we could have been better at both ends of the pitch. We’re not happy with the result, or with the fact that we were too lax and didn’t create enough. Result aside, I felt good during the game. My foot held up well.”
