The media representatives present on Friday morning didn’t hesitate to ask about Werder striker Marvin Ducksch, who has been called up to the Germany national team. “Marvin’s a very important part of our team, who has always done his share of the work in the individual seasons,” said coach Ole Werner. “Therefore, I’m pleased that he’s been rewarded with this call-up. My fingers are crossed for him that he gets some time on the pitch.” Clemens Fritz also gave his two cents, adding that Werder’s number 7 has “something special” and “real skill”.
However, Ducksch must first help SV Werder in their match against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend, who ensured they’ll be playing European football in 2024 after a 1-0 victory in Helsinki last night. “You always look at your opposition’s every game – that means last night’s as well,” revealed Werner. “They’re a team with a lot of talent and speed, and they’re very resolute in defence. They’ve done that better and better in the last few weeks, and their results have also improved. It’s going to be a tight game against tough opposition, and Frankfurt are of course favourites, but we’re confident that we can put in a performance good enough to beat them.”
