Together for Bremen: WFB and Werder in Vietnam

SV Werder visited a school in Hai Phong alongside WFB and the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA), a non-profit organisation. Over 100 children took part in an exciting and insightful workshop surrounding hand hygiene and everyday habits to avoid the spread of contagious diseases and germs. A collective football session was then held after the presentation, before everyone headed off to a wastewater treatment facility.

“Our commitment goes beyond football and is building bridges between ecology, education and physical exercise on a global level. We want to work directly within the community,” said Dominik Kupilas, Werder Bremen’s head of fan and business development. BORDA, Bremen Invest and Werder Bremen want to drive further positive changes with the slogan “Beyond Football: Co-operation for a sustainable future”. The co-operation is focused on groundwater and wastewater disposal and teaches the local population about these important topics, whilst young people are involved in football programmes.

To round off the trip, the delegation visited Chuyen Ngoai Ngu grammar school, one of Vietnam’s top schools that teaches its students in German. The school is part of the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) network, with whom they compiled comprehensive teaching materials at the A2/B1 language level last year. These materials, which have also been made available to teachers worldwide online via PASCH-net, are comprised of eight series of lessons and revolve around the topic of football, with a strong focus on Werder Bremen.

After the teaching session and a detailed presentation about Bremen, influencer Phat Freestyle taught the pupils some of his tricks. Former Vietnam international Thông Tin Cá Nhân was coincidentally also in attendance as a sports teacher at the school, and she showed the football freestyler how it’s done by winning the heading competition.

The delegation had already visited the Vietnamese German Eager Company (VGEC) school and Next Media in Hanoi at the start of their visit to Vietnam. As an official broadcaster and partner of the German Football League (DFL), Next Media is bringing Bundesliga games to a country of almost 100 million people. The week-long visit was rounded off by a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce, as well as official visits to the German embassy in Hanoi and the Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City, along with multiple events that were carried out together with Lecka Nutrition. Werder, together with WFB, not only entertained hundreds of children and young people in a diverse range of sessions, but also put Bremen on the map as an excellent place for education and study.
