In previous seasons, Michael Zetterer worked hard, even as he had to settle for second choice. But even after the Munich-born player calmly stepped in for Jiri Pavlenka and was promoted to first choice ahead of the 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, his daily work schedule has remained the same. “I’ve done well in the last few weeks not to change my work habits and I want to build on that,” explains Zetterer. “I handled the situation professionally and always prepared myself to be able to step in.”

During his youth, the former Unterhaching man played as an outfield player for a long time, before he discovered his passion for goalkeeping. His two-footedness and ability on the ball give Werder’s play an additional element that he wants to continue to contribute. Despite the good relationship with his fellow goalkeeper Pavlenka, Werder’s number 30 would like to defend his place in the team in the upcoming games. “I’m taking my career step-by-step,” says Zetterer. “I’ve now taken the step of continually playing Bundesliga games. Of course I’d now like to keep the number one spot, but the even bigger goal is to become more accustomed to the team’s style of play in order to help the team even more.”
