Head coach Ole Werner: “We definitely had a bit of luck on our side. Mainz played very well today, but we put in a strong defensive performance to hold them off. Although they were superior in the second half, we let them have very few clear-cut chances. It speaks volumes for the team that we can do so well, even when we have less possession, which is the reason why we came away from the game with all three points.”
Michael Zetterer: “It was a highly competitive match, and we found it really difficult to play nice football against them. We had expected more from ourselves today and it was a close one towards the end once again, but a vital win on the road for us.”
Marco Friedl: “That was an incredibly physical and horrible game. It wasn’t our best performance, but it just proves once again that we can defend well as a team and prevent them from having any chances. At the moment, we’re lucky that it’s difficult to score against us. Well done to the boys for continuing to fight for the entire 90 minutes.”
Marvin Ducksch: “We fought them off on every occasion, which I think was the key to our success, as well as scoring an early opener. You just need to be able to grind out a win in a game like that. A huge well done to every player, and also to the backline, for defending so well today. It was a difficult game with lots of balls over the top into the penalty area. Whenever we’re able to get a goal up the opposite end, we can take that as a positive.”
