1. FC Union Berlin’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Yannic Stein is moving to VfB Lübeck on loan for the second half of the season. For Stein, it is the first loan of his still young professional career.
From Viktoria to Union
Stein previously played for Viktoria Berlin moving to Köpenick for the 2019/20 season. The six-foot two keeper developed into a regular for Union’s U17s where he also played 21 competitive matches in the U19 Bundesliga. The Berlin native has been a member of the professional squad since this season. Stein also made five full-time appearances in the UEFA Youth League. In May last year, the goalkeeper was nominated for a DFB U19 training programme, where he was on the pitch for one half of a friendly against Denmark without conceding a goal.
“In Yannic, we have a promising goalkeeping talent in our ranks,” said Union’s director of professional football, Oliver Ruhnert, on the deal. “He shows great learning potential every day and always impresses with his footballing qualities. By loaning him out, we want to give him a greater opportunity to develop further and realise his full potential.”
