1. FC Union Berlin have added Bundesliga experience to the forward line with the signing of 29-year-old Andreas Voglsammer from Arminia Bielefeld.
In 163 competitive games for Bielefeld, Voglsammer scored 49 goals. The striker moved from Heidenheim to Arminia Bielefeld in 2016 and helped Uwe Neuhaus’ squad to the 2.Bundesliga title last season. With two goals and two assists, Voglsammer and Bielefeld managed to prolong their stay in Germany’s top division. He developed in his youth days at Bayern Munich and Karlsruhe before his move to Heidenheim in 2015.
“After five-and-a-half years at Arminia, in which we were very successful with promotion to the Bundesliga and staying up, I would like to try something new. I know Union from many games as an opponent. The path that the team and the club have taken in recent years is impressive. I’m very much looking forward to now becoming part of this team and helping to achieve their targets in three competitions,” said the striker who joins Union on a free transfer.
“Andreas is a robust and powerful striker who can carry a team along with him. We are convinced that his style of play is a good fit for us. He is capable of scoring goals himself, but plays for the team at all times. We are delighted to be able to sign such a striker on a free transfer,” said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin’s Managing Director for Professional Football.
