1. FC Union Berlin will kick start pre-season preparations in late June with two away friendlies to start at 1. FC Magdeburg and Viktoria Berlin.
After confirmation of the season-opener on July 9 at home to Bohemians and July.6 away in Braunschweig, Urs Fischer’s side will add miles to the clock with a game against Viktoria Berlin on Wednesday June 29 at 18:00 in the Friedrich Jahn Sportpark. On Saturday July 2, Union will head to promoted Magdeburg at 16:30.
The squad will start preparations at a training camp in Bad Saarow up until June 26.
1. FC Magdeburg, on one hand, secured a dominant return to the 2.Bundesliga under Christian Titz’s management. Magdeburg finished with 78 points and went up as champions with Eintracht Braunschweig coming in 14 points behind in second place. Titz has rebuilt the squad at Magdeburg, implemented an attacking style of football and the former HSV coach will get the chance to test his troops against Bundesliga opposition.
For Viktoria Berlin, the experience of 3.Liga football ended after one year. The light blues earned promotion last year from Regionalliga Nordost, becoming the first Berlin-based side to compete in Germany’s third division for 12 years – Union were the last club from the capital to do so in 2008. Former U19 coach Semih Keskin has been given the keys as head coach to bring Viktoria back into professional football.
Ticket information for both matches will be confirmed in due course.
