With last season’s 4th placed finish in the Bundesliga, 1. FC Union Berlin qualified for the group stage for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League. And in Thursday’s draw in Monaco they were drawn into group C with the following teams:
- SSC Napoli
Napoli won the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years last season and were therefore seeded in pot one. Their home games take place in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. - Real Madrid
The record Spanish and European champions, last year’sSpanish runners-up, booked a direct ticket to the group stage and will play their home games at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. - Sporting Braga
As with last season in the UEFA Europa League, Diogo Leite will face his former club. Sporting Braga play their home games at the Estádio Municipal and qualified directly for the group stage after finishing third in Portugal last season.
Views on the draw
“Matches against Real and Napoli are exceptional,” said Union president, Dirk Zingler, on the historic draw. “And with Braga, we face an opponent we already know from the UEFA Europa League. Today has made not only me, but many Unioners very happy.”
