1. FC Union Berlin’s application to the Court of Administration was turned down for increased capacity at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. The Bundesliga match will go ahead with 3G health and safety protocols, meaning a capacity restriction of 50%.

In their justification this afternoon, the court said “the measures [capacity restriction] currently still appear to be proportionate in the strictest sense possible.”

1. FC Union Berlin’s president Dirk Zingler commented further:

“We accept the decision from the Court of Administration and will hold our match on Saturday on the basis of the previous conditions. In view of the reasons for the ruling, which clearly state on several occasions that the court considers the pandemic containment measures to be “still reasonable” and the assessments on which they are based to be “not yet manifestly misguided,” we are optimistic that the Senate of Berlin will also shortly adopt more comprehensive regulations. We will therefore refrain from going to the higher Court of Administration and will again apply for higher stadium utilisation rates under 3G conditions for our next matches at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei and the Olympic Stadium (UECL). Looking at other German states, currently Saarland for example, we hope that in Berlin, too, the even organisers and the Senate will find amicable solutions.”

The match is completely sold out.
