After the conclusion of the winter training camp in Campoamor, Spain, 1. FC Union Berlin are to play against Slovakian first division side MŠK Žilina on Saturday, 14.01.2023 for a final friendly before the resumption of the Bundesliga. Kick-off at the Alte Försterei is at 15:30.
The Overview
Even though the players will have only just returned to Germany, the game offers a chance to round off their intensive preparations. Nine full training sessions and two victorious friendlies against FC Augsburg in the south meant a heavy workload, but it’s still not not quite enough. This match will provide the final test before next week’s home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
The opponents
The Slovaks, coached by Jaroslav Hynek, are currently in sixth place in the domestic Fortuna Liga, which at the moment allows them to continue in the championship round. One more league game against second-bottom MFK Skalica will decide where they will play for the rest of the season.
The seven-time Slovakian champions are running short on form as the season comes to an end. They’ve lost four of the last five in the league and cup, and have scored only a single goal in that time.
Their stand-out players have been the two home-grown attacking wingers David Duris and Adrian Kapralik with seven goals each so far.
Service information
The stadium An der Alten Försterei will open its gates one hour before kick-off, at 14:30.

Those who need tickets at short notice on match day can purchase them at the stadium for €12 (standing) or €17 (seated). As usual, Union will be providing updates on the match via the club’s own ticker, as well as in English on twitter.
