After five years in the youth teams of 1. FC Union Berlin, new challenges lie ahead for talented striker Malick Sanogo. The 19-year-old is moving to 1. FC Nürnberg with immediate effect.
Scoring in the academy
Sanogo joined Union in the summer of 2018 and proved his ability across the various age groups. In the B-Junioren Bundesliga, he scored 22 goals in 25 games, providing eight assists. He carried on where he left off as part of the U-19 team, where he scored a further 22 goals with six assists in 34 games in the U-19 Bundesliga.
He was allowed to train with Union’s first team and proved his talent in several short appearances in friendlies. But now Sanogo wants to take the next steps in his career in Nuremberg.
The view on the move
“A player of Malick’s age needs match practice. Since he no longer gets this in our U-19s due to his age and the competition in the first team is too great, a transfer was the logical step,” said Union’s director of men’s professional football, Oliver Ruhnert. “We hope that he will be able to realise his potential in Nuremberg and wish him all the best for the future.”
