After 1. FC Union’s decision to prolong their cooperation with head coach Urs Fischer and his co-coach Markus Hoffmann last September, another member of the coaching staff is now certain to remain at the club. Goalkeeping coach Michael Gspurning has also extended his contract in Köpenick.
The Graz-born Gspurning moved to Berlin in the summer of 2016 as a goalkeeper following stints at Austria Vienna, FC Pasching, Sounders FC, PAOK Saloniki and Schalke 04, drawing an end to his career between the posts in 2017. Since then, the 41-year-old has been a permanent presence at the Alte Försterei as goalkeeping coach.
“With the re-signing of Michael Gspurning, we can continue our focus on continuity at the club for the coming seasons. The good performances of our goalkeepers are a testament to his work, so we are very happy that we can continue to count on Michael’s services,” said Oliver Ruhnert, director of professional football in the course of signing the contract.
