Having initially brought Lennart Grill on loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen last summer, the ink is now dry on a deal to make his move to 1. FC Union Berlin permanent.
The seven-time German U-21 international has made six appearances this season, four in the Bundesliga and one each in the DFB Pokal and Europa League.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper is looking forward to staying in Köpenick. “Of course I’m glad that everything worked out and that both clubs were able to come to an agreement,” he said of the new deal. “I’m happy to be here and will give everything to keep the team successful.”
“With Lennart’s signing, we have added a player in his prime to our goalkeeping portfolio,” said Union’s director of professional football, Oliver Ruhnert. “Especially in his games at the beginning of the season, he showed us what great potential he has, as did his performances in games without conceding a goal – in the Bundesliga at Köln, in the Europa League at St. Gilles and also in the DFB Pokal against Heidenheim. It is now a matter of developing this further.”
