1. FC Union Berlin and midfielder András Schäfer will continue working together, having agreed upon and signed a new contract.
The 2021 Hungarian Player of the Year moved to Union from Slovakian first division club DAC Dunajská Streda in January 2022, immediately impressing with his tackling ability and attacking style of play. So far, he has appeared in 49 matches, scoring two goals and providing three assists. So far this season, the 25-year-old has made 17 appearances, scoring one goal and creating one assist.
Schäfer made his senior international debut on 3. September, 2020 in the UEFA Nations League match against Türkiye. He has scored three goals in 15 international appearances to date. At the 2021 European Football Championships, he played in all three of Hungary’s group matches, scoring the goal which gave Hungary a 2-1 lead over Germany.
Views on the contract extension
“Union are an exceptional club that have supported me, especially through my difficult phases,” said a delighted Schäfer on the inking of his new deal. “I’m very happy to be back on the pitch for the club and I’m delighted to be able to continue doing so in the future.”
