VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß takes his team to 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Jamie Leweling knows the home side only too well, having left Berlin for Stuttgart in a loan deal at the beginning of the season. VfB are the 22-year-old’s third top-flight club, after spells with SpVgg Greuther Fürth (33 Bundesliga appearances, five goals) and Union (16 appearances, one goal). “I know full well what it’s like at Union’s stadium,” Leweling told VfB TV. “They’ll try to overpower us with their fans behind them. We’ll need to hold our own.”
Wideman Leweling has featured in every league game so far this season, appearing as a substitute in the first five matches before slotting seamlessly into the starting XI in VfB’s last two outings. “I’m pleased to have played from the start of late,” said the Nuremberg native, who like his team-mates has been buoyed by the club’s recent five-match winning run. “The results have given us a boost. We’ll keep going and try to get our next win on Saturday.”
