VfB Stuttgart travel to FC Bayern Munich in their final away game of the calendar year on Bundesliga Matchday 15. Ahead of Sunday’s encounter, VfB boss Sebastian Hoeneß offered an insight into his side’s preparations and the absence earlier in the week of captain Waldemar Anton, who has been suffering with a cold. “Waldi was back on the training pitch with us today,” said Hoeneß. “We’ll have to wait and see, but things are heading in the right direction. Waldi is a fighter. Health permitting, he’ll be there on Sunday.”
Hoeneß will not be deviating from his usual preparations ahead of the meeting with the German record champions. “It’s a really important game for all of us, including me of course,” he added. “But our process and analysis remain the same. It’s a top-of-the-table clash, based on the current standings at least, and we’re looking forward to the game.
“Bayern are an absolutely brilliant side with great individual quality – absolutely top notch,” continued Hoeneß, who says he is “feeling good” about the trip to Munich and confident of getting “something” from the game. “We need to find solutions for different periods, including those that might not be as pronounced against other opponents. We have to be courageous, have confidence in ourselves and be prepared to suffer – then we have a chance. Our recent results against Dortmund and Leverkusen have shown we’re capable of performing against top sides, but we can only do so if we push ourselves to the limit.”
