We sat down for an interview with our two new signings from Austria, Nici Seiwald and Christoph Baumgartner. Hear from them on their first days at RB Leipzig, the challenges of training camp and fellow Austrian Xaver Schlager.
Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald on…
…their first days at RB Leipzig:
- Baumi: “The first training sessions were good and we were able to get to know our teammates and the backroom staff. There were obviously lots of new faces due to all the new signings. The new players all have to integrate themselves in the team, which is what we’re working on doing every day, and we’re on the way to becoming a tight-knit unit.”
- Nici: “I felt at home here right away. I knew several of the players already in Xaver, Šeško and Baumi. The other lads and the staff are all super friendly. It was easy to settle in here.”

… Xaver Schlager
- Baumi: “Nici and I have played together with Xaver a time or two with the national team already. Xaver and Nici play in the middle behind me, which is a big help. As an attacker, it’s fun when you have two absolute machines behind you to cover your back. Even in transition, the two of them are always quick to react in order to find me.
Xaver is a big help, especially in these early days, because he knows how the club functions, which is very helpful.”
- Nici: “The connection between Xaver, Baumi and me works well with the national team! Xaver is very down-to-earth and a hard worker when it comes to football. It’s cool to get to play with him in the national team and I’m now looking forward to playing together at RB Leipzig.”

…their time at training camp:
- Baumi: “Training camp is always something special, especially when you’ve just joined a new club. Everyone knows how important it is, and it’s part of the job, but it can also be really tough. It’s a great way for us to get to know everyone, though.”
- Nici: “Training camp is great for us new boys. The entire team is here and you can get to know the players and the staff really well.”

…their goals for the upcoming season:
- Baumi: “My first goal is to become a key figure for the team as quickly as possible. We have lots of new, talented players – there’s a lot of quality an talent in the team. The Champions League will be the highlight of the season for me, and I want to help us achieve that next season again.”
- Nici: “I want to play as much as possible. One of my goals is also to play in the Champions League and I think that we have the right team to help us achieve that.”
