Third home game this week!

RB Leipzig host VfL Bochum at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday (15:30 CEST). As per usual, our head coach Marco Rose answered questions from the media ahead of the game.

Who’s fit? Who’s not? And how does Marco expect Bochum to play? Our head coach answered all those questions and more. We’ve gathered his most important quotes below.

Squad update

  • Benjamin Henrichs is still unavailable for selection due to a minor muscle strain.

  • Kevin Kampl is a potential option for the game against Bochum and will train fully today.

  • Willi Orban injured his knee when playing for Hungary against the Czech Republic and will be out for approximately 10 weeks.

  • Dani Olmosuffered an injury to his right knee in Spain’s international fixture vs. Georgia, meaning he will have to sit out of training and rest for the next couple of RBL games.

  • El Chadaille Bitshiabu (MCL tear) is still out of action.

  • Timo Schlieckis currently doing rehabilitation work at the Athlete Performance Center in Thalgau. The goalkeeper injured his knee during training.

Opponent Analysis

Marco Rose on…

…VfL Bochum

  • “Their head coach, Thomas Letsch, said that they’re aiming to be more solid, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re going to sit back. They’re a team defined by their pressing, no-nonsense build-up play, energy and strength. We don’t know whether they’ll set up with three or four at the back. They’ll look to create chances and will play with courage. They have nothing to lose against us.

We’re expecting the play in and around the box to be similar to the game against Manchester City, but their approach will be completely different. We won’t have to deal with the opposition playing 30 or 40 passes before getting into the box; they’ll just launch it forwards.”

…what he’s taken from the game against Manchester City

  • “We briefly went over the City game on Thursday, but we’re under the impression that we gave it our all, but the opposition were just better on the day. We still played well and were ambitious when we had the ball. A few mistakes combined with City’s dominance led to the goals we conceded, but we’ve talked about it and analysed it in depth.

We want to be better against Bochum. It’s another game where it’s eleven against eleven and where we’ll have to deal with situations in our penalty area.”

Marco Rose on…

…playing our own game

  • “We know what we have to do and that it’ll be important to stay on the ball tomorrow. We want to keep our good form up, have the confidence to play our own game, and put in a good performance.

It’s yet another challenge at the end of a long stretch of fixtures before the international break, but we want to leave everything out on the pitch and win with the fans behind us.”

…going into a game as favourites

  • “I get the impression that the boys have a positive attitude. They know what they’re doing and what we want to achieve. If I had the feeling that we were getting off track, I’d step in.

The team seem very solid. Self-regulation seems to work pretty well within the group, so it makes sense to take a step back and just watch sometimes.”

He’s had a very good season so far. It’s nice to see his performances being rewarded.
Marco Rose on David Raum being called up to the Germany national team

Marco Rose on…

…the players called up for their national sides

  • “The communication with a lot of the national team head coaches is good. At the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat. They too need fit, healthy players for World Cups and other tournaments. It’s not just about qualifying. It’s tricky for them, though, as they need to treat everyone the same.

When I call the Sweden head coach and say that Emil Forsberg needs to be rested, he says to me that all the other coaches are asking for the same thing.

Ultimately, we all try to be friendly with one another and find solutions that please everyone. Medical departments are always speaking to the coaches and that works out pretty well at a lot of clubs.”

…David Raum’s call-up to the Germany national team

  • “I think it makes sense. David deserves it – he’s had a very good season so far. He’s worked his way back into the fold of the national team.

I expected it from him and he expected it from himself, too. It’s nice to see that his performances are being rewarded and that he’s back in the squad.”
