• “Wednesday was tough to take, but today we responded. We knew that we had a very important game coming up with fourth place in reach. And we really wanted to win it. Darmstadt work very hard every week and are rightly in the Bundesliga. They defended well.

  But we still had a few chances that we didn’t take advantage of. We made it 2-0 early in the second half, but then there were two more dangerous counterattacks. If they score one, it will be nervy again. In the end we defended it cleanly.

• “We started really well today, but we lost our quality in front of goal. But then we had our chances again. We knew that we had to score the second goal straight away in the second half.

  Goals are always good for an offensive player. We also won the game today, so I’m very happy. The goal also gives me more energy for the week before the international break to really step on the gas.

• “We did our work today and appeared very united. It was clear to everyone that this would be a difficult game. Darmstadt were certainly a bit shocked after the last game, but showed a good reaction today.

  We could have made better use of one or two situations today, but on the other hand we won 2-0 and gained three points on Dortmund. But we look after ourselves and want to win our games. Therefore we are satisfied. Our goal is to qualify for the Champions League again. It’s wonderful that we don’t have anyone injured apart from Lukas Klostermann.
