Top RBL stats from the 2022/23 season

All is quiet at Cottaweg, with the players still enjoying their well-deserved summer holidays after a long season in which the team played 49 games across all competitions. On top of that, some players were also away at times with their national sides, including at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar late last year.

The past nine months have seen the team compete in the German Supercup, Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League, leaving us with plenty of statistics to highlight. Willi Orbán and Christopher Nkunku are top of several of these rankings — no surprise, given their strong performances this past season.

The entire team contributed to what was our best end to a season in club history. Read on for all our top statistics from the 2022/23 season.

Tireless

Our number four was a tireless machine this past season. Willi had an injury-free campaign and featured in 48 of 49 possible matches, for a total of 4,256 minutes — by far the most of any of his teammates!

Despite missing 13 competitive games due to injury, Christo finished as our top goalscorer once again. He netted 23 goals in 36 matches across all competitions and finished joint top of the Bundesliga’s goalscoring charts with 16 goals.

RBL scored the third-most goals this season (64), behind Bayern München (92) and Borussia Dortmund (83).
We had the third-most shots on goal of any team in the division (509).
RBL averaged 56% possession last term, the second-most in the Bundesliga.
We completed 85.5% of our passes, the third-best rate.
RBL hit the woodwork 16 times, more than any other side!
We had the second-best record at home last season (41 points, W13, D2), behind Borussia Dortmund (44 points).
RBL went unbeaten in 12 games from 1st October 2022 to 11th February 2023.
Our biggest win was a 6-1 victory at FC Schalke 04.

DFB-Pokal

RB Leipzig won the DFB-Pokal for the second season in a row, something only seven other clubs have also managed.
We reached the final for the third straight season.
RBL are currently on a 12-game winning run in the cup!
We scored 24 goals and conceded just two in the DFB-Pokal this season.

Best ever end to a season!

RBL won nine of their last 10 competitive games this season.
We are currently on a seven-game winning run.
RBL enjoyed their best ever end to a season in club history, since our promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016.
We have only previously won nine of our last 10 games of the season back in 2009/10, when we were playing in the Oberliga.
