Three in a row at home!

The RBL women achieved their third home win in a row on matchday 17 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. Coach Saban Uzun‘s team ultimately won 3-0  against MSV Duisburg .

Our girls saw more possession in the first half and were rewarded shortly before the break with a penalty from Jenny Hipp to take the lead. In the second half, the visitors were more attacking, but a counterattack from Lydia Andrade and another from Jenny Hipp secured the 3-0 victory and the three points.

Now on 16 points, RBL overtake 1. FC Köln and jump to ninth place, the lead over 1. FC Nürnberg (11th) is four points. Duisburg remain at the bottom of the table with four points.

Our next game is on Friday, April 12th, on the Weser, away at SV Werder Bremen at 6:30 p.m.

Rackow celebrates her return to the starting 11, Magerl is also back

  • There were three changes from last weekend’s starting lineup. Jenny Hipp was fit again and returned to the starting eleven, with Michela Croatto and Gianna Rackow also starting. Our number eight was on the pitch for the first time this season after Rackow came on as a substitute in the 2-1 winagainst Eintracht Frankfurt in mid-February, exactly 321 days after her horror injury (broken ankle and several torn ligaments).

Also very pleasing: Julia Magerl was part of the squad for the first time this year after her knee injury, and Barbara Brecht was also fit for action again. Lara Marti (calf injury), Frederike Kempe (knee problems) and Julia Landenberger (ill) were not yet available. Sandra Starke was suspended due to her fifth yellow card.

Jenny Hipp’s penalty claims the lead

  • After staving off some Duisburg attacks, our girls increasingly took control. Mimmi Larsson had the first shot on target in the 3rd minute, but Ena Mahmutovic made the save in the MSV goal. Leipzig then had significantly more possession of the ball, but rarely found space to shoot.

After a good 20 minutes, Vanessa Fudalla picked up speed in midfield, but the pass to the free-standing Gianna Rackow came a little too late – offside. But things got dangerous in the 33rd minute as Mimmi Larrson forced a save from Mahmutovic who pushed the ball wide.

There was little attacking threat from RBL until the 39th minute. After a long ball from her own half, Sarah Freutel was completely free, but the finish went well over the bar. Shortly before the break, the longed-for goal finally came. Mahmutovic could only stop Mimmi Larsson with a foul, and Jenny Hipp converted Leipzig’s first penalty of the season for her first goal of the season (41′).

Lydia Andrade slides in, plus a dream goal from Jenny Hipp

  • In the second half, the team bottom of the table started the more courageous. A free kick from Paula Flach sailed in front of our goal, however it evaded several players. Duisburg then lost the ball and Leipzig quickly switched gears. Mimmi Larsson was up and away again, Lydia Andrade only had to tap in her cross – 2-0 (62′).

After that we had everything under control again and, with the two goal cushion, pushed for a third. That was achieved with a great shot: Jenny Hipp found the top corner of the MSV goal brilliantly, a real dream goal! The points were guaranteed, but MSV definitely wanted the consolation goal. Elvira Herzog made another brilliant save against Miray Cin (71′) and in the final minutes our girls cleared several times in their own penalty area. Full time. 3-0.

SABAN UZUN

  • “Our aim was clear. There was a bit of pressure on the table – especially because of yesterday’s results. It took us a while to get into the game. Nevertheless, we performed admirably and dominated the game. The victory is absolutely deserved and we are also happy that we didn’t concede a goal.

The way the girls threw themselves into it today was outstanding. Now we have a longer break until the next game. I think that will be good for us. Some of our players have been suffering over the last few weeks, but now they have the opportunity to recover.”

JENNY HIPP

  • “We are happy about the three points. In the reverse fixture we only secured one. Nürnberg’s win yesterday put us under a bit of pressure, but we also had the opportunity to overtake Köln.
  • The goal to make it 3-0 was a certainty intentional. In training we always try to hit the balls in such a way that they could go in like that. The fact that I was able to do it like that today was amazing.”
