Dear RBL family,

If we were to look back at a match report for 2023, an exciting year rounded up in 90 minutes of action would sound a little something like this:

  • “January 2023 – kick-off! Die Roten Bullen come flying out of the blocks and go two months unbeaten. The blistering start begins to unravel a little in March, however, with a number of points dropped. However, Marco Rose’s side put together a brilliant end-of-season run-in.

We secure our place in the UEFA Champions League group phase and sign off the first half of the year with a second straight DFB-Pokal triumph. The icing on the cake is the RBL Women getting promoted to the Bundesliga.

The (summer) break offered a chance to charge the batteries and also make a few changes. The team returns to action with a number of new faces, but made another excellent start, winning 3-0 in Munich to secure our first ever Supercup.

The new introductions hit the ground running and help secure some fantastic results. The RBL boys are in the mix at the top of the table and reach the UCL knockout stages, with our U19s also following suit in the UEFA Youth League for the first time. However, a strong phase from the opposition sees Die Roten Bullen knocked out of the cup by Wolfsburg after a run of 15 straight wins, as well as some missed opportunities on the road in the league.

Despite these setbacks, we remain in strong form at the Red Bull Arena. A total of over 1 million fans flock to our stadium over the course of a successful year, one which ended with Emil Forsberg’s final home game.

It was an emotional end to 2023 for the club, with RBL sitting in the top four and in the knockout stages of the Champions League at the turn of the year. Now is the time to relax and recuperate ahead of yet another busy year of football.”

2023 was a year full of incredible moments. It was the year we won our second DFB-Pokal title and our first Supercup trophy. It was the year our women’s side were promoted to the Bundesliga. It was the year we said goodbye to Emil Forsberg.

Thank you, 2023! Thank you all for your incredible support!

Together, we are a special team, writing our own story – RBL do things differently.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Look after yourselves and stay healthy.

Your RB Leipzig
