Last home game of the season!

RB Leipzig will host SV Werder Bremen on Saturday at 3.30pm for their final game of the season in front of their home crowd at the Red Bull Arena. With a win on Matchday 33, fourth place would be almost certain, as the Red Bulls have a significantly better goal-difference than closest pursuers Borussia Dortmund

Our Hanseatic guests have been in good form recently (seven points from the last three games) and can even hope for a place in a European competition next season. Our boys have been unbeaten in 10 competitive games (seven wins/three draws).

We look ahead to an exciting match-up in the game preview.

Werder and RBL doing well

  • Turnaround with home win against VfB
For a long time, Bremen were worried about whether the relegation battle might get tight again, especially after four defeats in a row in March. But the turnaround came with the 2-1 win at home to VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 30. Since last weekend it has been clear that relegation is out of sight.

  • Places 7 and 8 in sight
Now Bremen are looking up again, because this season even eighth place could be enough to qualify for the UEFA Conference League if Bayer Leverkusen wins the DFB Cup. Werder are currently 11th, but only three points behind SC Freiburg in seventh. So everything is still possible for the team from the Weser.

  • Will RBL set a new points record?
Even after successfully qualifying for the Champions League, the Red Bulls have further goals in mind. Among other things, our head coach Marco Rose and his team could set a new points record for a Bundesliga season. Our current record is 67 points from the 2016/17 season. Before the clash with Werder, RBL have 63 points. The record of 20 games won in a season (16/17 and 22/23) is also withing reach. So far, our team has 19 wins this season.

Personnel situation before #RBLSVW

  • Continuity in the starting XI
At Bremen, coach Ole Werner recently found a successful formation and is therefore relying on continuity. Bremen have started with the same starting XI in the last three Bundesliga games. And after seven points from the last three, there is a lot to suggest that it will remain unchanged in Leipzig.

  • Breakthrough
Nick Woltemade has recently established himself in the Bremen attack alongside Marvin Ducksch. Woltemade, who will move to VfB Stuttgart in the summer, recently scored his first two Bundesliga goals in a 2-2 draw in Gladbach.

Absentees

  • Amos Pieper (ankle)
  • Justin Njinmah (virus)
  • Skelly Alvero (shoulder)

As usual, you can find all information about the personnel situation at RB Leipzig in our personnel update.

Coach and system

Ole Werner began his coaching career at Holstein Kiel, where he had previously been active as a player. Having already worked for the “Storks” with their youth and reserve teams, he became head coach in Bundesliga 2 for the first time in 2019. Under Werner, Kiel almost got promoted to the Bundesliga in 2021, but in the end had to admit defeat to 1. FC Köln in the relegation play-off.

After his resignation in September 2021, it didn’t take long for him to join Werder Bremen that November. He led Werder to direct promotion back to the Bundesliga and early survival there for the second time in a row. Now the 36-year-old even has the chance to reach European competition with his team.
