Farewell, Stefan!

Our former midfielder Stefan Ilsanker has called time on his playing career.

The Austrian joined RBL from Salzburg in summer 2015 and was closely linked to many of the club’s historic moments during his five-year stay in Leipzig.

To mark the end of his career, we look back on Stefan’s time at RB Leipzig.

Stefan Ilsanker at RB Leipzig

  • The defensive midfielder was also involved in the club’s first ever Bundesliga game in Hoffenheim.

More firsts were to follow. Whether it was our first ever Bundesliga win against BVB (1-0) or our Champions League debut at AS Monaco (1-1), Stefan was a pillar of the side and helped to establish the club at the top table of German football.

After finishing as runners-up during our first ever Bundesliga season in 2017, European qualification also came in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

‘Ilse’ featured in a total of 131 competitive games for us between 2015 and 2020, the most for any team during his career.
