On Tuesday morning, RBL started their preparations for the home game against FC Augsburg (Saturday, 15:30 CEST) with the first training session of the week.

In front of around 750 fans at the public training session, head coach Marco Rose was without Mo Simakan, Konni Laimer and Emil Forsberg due to illness.

Interview with Kevin Kampl

Christopher Nkunku was present and was able to complete parts of team training. All information on the team can be found in the squad update.

After the session, Kevin Kampl answered the media’s questions. Here is what Kevko had to say:

Public training session | 11th April

KEVIN KAMPL ON …

… SC Freiburg

  • We will always take on every opponent. Of course, it’s a special story that both of last year’s finalists will now meet in the semi-final, but if you want to get to the final, you have to defeat every team you come up against.

We beat BVB at home, now we have to go to Freiburg. We all know it’s going to be a difficult game, but we’re going to Freiburg to win. Our aim is very clear: we want to get back to the final and that’s what we’ll go into the game with.”

… the team’s current form

  • “After three defeats in a row, the mood was low. We all questioned ourselves and agreed that we couldn’t continue in that way, that that wasn’t our football.

Against Dortmund, we managed to break free. We brought the qualities that make us stand out onto the pitch and didn’t let BVB into the game.

Afterwards, however, we also knew that it would be a completely different game in Berlin, that we would face a new challenge and a difficult game was ahead of us. I think we played with a lot of focus and didn’t let much go to waste. Of course, Hertha threw everything forward in the final minutes, which made things a bit precarious, but we defended that well too.

Thanks to these two important victories, our situation looks very different again. Our spirit is back again, but we know that we need to continue like this.”

… the final stretch of the season

  • “The decisive weeks are now here. We have to get the most out of them and pick up as many points as possible. We want to qualify for the Champions League, we want to reach the DFB-Pokal final and to do so we need to put in good performances and play our football.”

… the upcoming home game against Augsburg

  • We’re playing at home and have good momentum. We have felt once again how great it feels to be winning matches. And that’s exactly how we’d like to keep it against FCA.

We’re working hard this week and then we’ll go into the game full of energy. If we put in the performance that we are able to, I’m sure that we’ll win the game against Augsburg.”
