It has been a busy week for Max Eberl with Lois Openda, El Chadaille and Xavi Simons all signing before the training camp.

Our sporting director took questions from the media in South Tyrol. Here are the most important parts:

Max Eberl on…

… his first impressions

  • “It is the first time that more or less the full squad has got together. In the first weeks of the pre-season lots of younger players were involved but now everyone, including the international players, the new signings and the staff, are here.

As the sporting director, you’re right in the thick of it during the training camp and you have the chance to have lots of conversations. It’s a good chance to become acquainted with one another.”

… the busy transfer window

  • “This has been an especially busy window for me. With 16 or 17 arrivals and departures, I have never experienced such a high number of transfers in professional football.

We have been able to implement the plans that we had in mind. Although a lot has been written in the media, we have been able to work with composure and clarity in a focussed manner. We can be very satisfied with the squad that we have at the training camp, which is the one we’ll probably have going into the new season.”

… the relationship with PSG

  • “The relationship between RB Leipzig and PSG has existed for a long time and there have been lots of exchanges between the two clubs. Accordingly, there is a good relationship and the communication is always affable and open.”

… the new signings

  • “Lois Openda showed last season that he can score goals. He is quick, he has a certain unpredictability and he is strong in the air despite his size. Lolo has lots of qualities that will benefit this team.

I see Xavi Simons as someone who is very down-to-earth and as someone who knows what they want. He wants to have a good career as a professional footballer and he’s made good decisions in that regard so far. He’s a great footballer with enormous potential.”
