Since last summer, Xavi (20) and Lois Openda (23) have been regularly shaking up opposition defences in the RB Leipzig jersey, scoring almost at will and setting up other goals.

With their performances, the two new players have had a huge influence on our season so far, having as hand in many RBL goals.

And since the away win at Freiburg, the two attacking players have also broken the milestone of 50 direct goal-contributions in all competitions!

Benelux connection takes effect

One came from Lens last summer with 21 Ligue 1 goals under his belt, the other from PSV Eindhoven as the reigning top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie (19 goals). Anticipation for their arrivals was understandably high among RBL fans before the start of the season.
And after just a few months it was clear: Leipzig’s attacking pair had made a huge impact!
Belgium and Netherlands internationals respectively, Openda and Xavi developed a quick understanding. Because both of them – as is readily apparent when watching them – have mastered the finer things in their sport and pursue them with great passion. The fact that both can communicate in French without a language barrier is another advantage.

“We’ve known each other for a few months now and know each other’s qualities. We want to make each other better and at the end of the day help the team achieve its goals,” says Xavi, describing his connection with Lois.
