Welcome to Leipzig, Christopher!

Christopher Lenz has made the move to RB from EintrachtFrankfurt. He has joined the club on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another year.

Good to know

  • Christopher Lenz was born in Berlin on 22nd September 1994 and was a part of the TennisBorussia Berlin and Hertha BSC youth academies, before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012.

  • On 22nd May 2012, former Germany U18 head coach Christian Ziege called him up to the Germany U18s squad for the first time. Christian has played a combined 12 games for Germany at U18 and U19 level.

  • The 28-year-old celebrated his 2. Bundesliga debuton 16th October 2016, playing for Union Berlin as they defeated Hannover 96 2-1.

  • He made his first appearance in the German top division on 18th August 2019, once again in an Union shirt. Their opponents that day were none other than RB Leipzig, who would end up winning the game 4-0.

  • Lenz won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021/22. He played a crucial role in the final, as he stepped up first in the penalty shootout and converted confidently from the spot.

  • The defender has played a total of 93 games across his Bundesliga career.

Coffee, FIFA and vegetarian food

  • He’s a familiar face for some, having played alongside Janis Blaswich in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team in 2012. They spent about two and a half years together in Gladbach’s youth academy.

  • As a youth player, he was an intern in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s press department. Toni Schmitt from the Gemischtes Hack podcast was a trainee at Gladbach at the same time. Since then, the pair have been close friends.

  • Freiburg striker Maximilian Philipp is his oldest friend. They know one another from their time as youth players in Berlin.

  • Our number 3 has been a vegetarian for a long time. From time to time, he even goes vegan. He also loves drinking coffee in his free time.

  • He’s been in a relationship with actress GizemEmre since the summerof2021.

  • In his free time, ‘Chris’ likes playing FIFAUltimateTeam.
