Press conference ahead of Matchday 28!
The Red Bulls will play against Freiburg on Saturday (3.30 pm kick-off). Before our boys head to Breisgau, Marco Rose was on hand to answer questions from the media.
Our head coach provided the answers at the press conference before #SCFRBL. You can find his answers from the press conference here.

- Christopher Lenz had calf problems during the week, but is expected to be fit for Saturday’s game.
SUSPENSIONS
- Amadou Haidara served his yellow card suspension against Mainz and is eligible to play again in Freiburg.
- David Raum und Lois Openda have each received four yellow cards. If they are cautioned again in Freiburg, they will miss the home game against VfL Wolfsburg next Saturday.

Ready for the Farewell | Opponent Analysis: SC Freiburg
Marco Rose on…
… SC Freiburg
- “A high level of energy, physicality and intensity awaits us. That’s the basis if you want to survive against Freiburg. They also know how to win games. This has meant that they now regularly fight for European places.
“Freiburg also know how to score and prevent goals. They can play football, but also use simple means such as winning first and second balls or crosses. They use this complete package again and again to create a winning formula.”
… expected high temperatures on Saturday
- “Last week we had a similar theme where the first really warm day was announced. We’ve addressed this and will ensure that the boys have enough chance to refuel and hydrate with drinks and electrolytes.
We’ll also prepare ourselves mentally. And then it is also a question of will. In the end, both teams have the same conditions.”
We’ll do everything to get into the Champions League.
Marco Rose on…
… Attacking Places
- “Before the last game, the momentum was in favour of“Baumi” [Christoph Baumgartner], who keeps applying himself well and has played good games in the national team. The decisions for us are always close.Benjamin Sesko’salso in good shape, Eljif Elmasis pushing for playing time.
“This is what we want and need. We’ll see who we choose tomorrow. It’s close and you have to deliver when it’s your turn.”
… the situation in the Bundesliga
- “We were very disappointed against Mainz recently. We weren’t rewarded for the game we played. And if we don’t get our three points, then we don’t have to look for what happens in other games. But of course we saw Dortmund win in Munich. In the end we still have to get past BVB.
It is and remains a tight race. Tomorrow we have the chance to go seal a third consecutive win on the road. We have big goals, so we have to stick with them. We have to push our luck and become better at taking our chances. That’s what we’re focusing on.”
Marco Rose on..
… the Champions League
- “For many people it may be taken for granted that we reach the Champions League every year. But there’s something special about qualifying for this competition. As a rule, there are four teams that make it in the Bundesliga.
“And there are always years in which teams perform exceptionally and develop brilliantly. This season it’s VfB Stuttgart. Then you have Bayer Leverkusen, who are having a monster year.
“We have the goal in mind and will do everything we can to get into the Champions League. Last year we were at a similar point and in the end we made it through wins, like in Freiburg, and thanks to a great run-in.”
