As a late present for RBL fans, Eljif Elmas’ (24) move to Leipzig from SSC Napoli was confirmed shortly after Christmas!

The North Macedonia international is comfortable playing anywhere in the midfield and is a very versatile player.

In this interview, Eljif speaks about his move to Leipzig, his favourite position and his aspirations.

Eljif Elmas on…

…his move to RBL

  • “It’s a big change, everything moved so quickly. I’m happy to be here, though. I’ve joined a good team that has a lot of quality. I’m glad that things are getting started now.”

…RB Leipzig

  • “RB Leipzig are a big club in Germany. I like how they develop young talent here. I’m 24, so I’m young and can still improve. Here is the right place to do just that.”

…the first days at the training camp

  • “Everything is still very new, of course, but it was nice to out there on the pitch with the boys and the coaching staff. Marco Rose is very clear about what he wants to see and knows how to handle and improve young players. Now, it’s all about absorbing everything I can and getting a better grasp of the basics on the pitch.”

Eljif Elmas on…

…his favourite position

  • “I like playing as a ten, but I can play anywhere in the midfield.”

…his plans in Leipzig

  • “I’ll move to Leipzig with my family. My parents and siblings will come with me. My teammate in Napoli, Diego Demme, played for RBL for a long time and knows the city well. He’s given me a few tips.

I want to learn German as quickly as possible. I think it’s really important to be able to speak the language, as I’ll be able to communicate more effectively with my teammates. Give me four or five months to get the hang of it.”
