Our consistent performer stays!

RB Leipzig and Amadou Haidara are extending his contract, which currently runs until summer 2025, by another year until 2026.

This means the Red Bulls can add another familiar face to the club’s history – because the 26-year-old has been playing for RBL for five years and has already played 175 competitive games, the twelfth most in the club’s history.

Special Offer:
To celebrate the contract extension, this Saturday (March 30th) you can have Amadou Haidara’s name and number 8 personalized for free when you buy an RBL jersey at RBL stores in Leipzig or in the stadium.

Sporting Director Rouven Schröder

  • “Amadou Haidara is a great player and person who plays a central role in our team. That’s why we really wanted to extend the contract early. Amadou has made an enormous leap in the last two years and, at 26, is not yet at the end of his development.

He is a very important link player for us: on the pitch in central midfield with his technical skills and dynamism; off the pitch as a leader for our young French-speaking players. He is developing more and more into a leading figure at RB Leipzig and we are relying on his qualities.”

Amadou Haidara

  • “I’ve been at RB Leipzig for five years now and I’m incredibly happy here. I feel the recognition for my performance throughout the club and especially among our fans. It’s always one of the best moments for me to celebrate with the fans after the games. And we have an outstanding team that has incredible potential.

RB Leipzig is my second family and the last two years in particular have been very successful with the two cup wins and the success in the Supercup. In Marco Rose I have an excellent coach who relies on me, develops me and uses me in such a way that I can use my strengths. I’m just looking forward to everything that lies ahead of us here at the club.”

Amadou Haidara at RB Leipzig

  • Amadou Haidara came to Leipzig from Salzburg in January 2019. However, due to his recovery after a cruciate ligament injury, he had to wait a few more weeks for his debut.

On March 16, 2019, our number 8 finally celebrated his RBL debut under coach Ralf Rangnick in a 1-0 win at Schalke. Just a week later, he scored his first goal for Leipzig on March 30th in the Red Bull Arena in a 5-0 win against Hertha BSC.

Despite two other major injuries (inner ligament injury from March to 2022; torn muscle from August to September), Amadou Haidara established himself as a regular player in central midfield and has currently played 175 competitive games, scored 14 goals and provided ten assists.

“Doudou” scored his tenth Bundesliga goal in the last league game against 1. FC Köln. The Mali national player appeared in 20 RBL games across all competitions this season (one goal, two assists).

Amadou Haidara has reached the UEFA Champions League five times with RB Leipzig and reached the semi-finals of the UCL in 2019/20. The midfielder crowned his career to date with victories in the 2022 and 2023 DFB Cup and success in the 2023 Supercup.

Side note: alongside Willi Orban, Lukas Klostermann, Emil Forsberg, Konrad Laimer, Kevin Kampl and Marcel Halstenberg, Amadou Haidara is one of seven Red Bulls who played in all four DFB Cup finals.

Amadou Haidara first appeared on the pitch for Mali’s national team at the U17 World Cup in 2015. He made his debut for the senior national team two years later in the World Cup qualifier against the Ivory Coast and has since played a total of 36 senior international matches. At this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the central midfielder played four out of five games and was voted “Player of the Match” in the first group game against South Africa.

Alongside captain Willi Orban (until 2027), Yussuf Poulsen (until 2026), Kevin Kampl (until 2026) and Lukas Klostermann (until 2028), Amadou Haidara is the fifth player to extend his contract this season.
