A strong performance in the first half
The match kicked off at 11:30 AM sharp in front of 350 fans in Cottaweg.
By the 10-minute mark, our guests had already experienced the pressure RB Leipzig was keen on adding the second the ball began to roll, leading to a quick goal by Faik Sakar (7′). Our players remained aggressive and almost scored the 2-0 after a great solo by Faik Sakar (8′). However, the 16-year-old was stopped by Meuselwitz goalkeeper Fietz. Our guests’ first counterattack in the 12th minute was only somewhat dangerous, it didn’t manage to break RBL’s defense.
Leipzig’s second goal was not long in coming. In the 15th minute, Amos Gerth, assisted by Laurin Schößler, managed to score. There was even more danger on the 22nd minute. This time it was Andre Silva who only hit the post after a header by Lukas Klostermann. Three minutes later, the Portuguese player scored after a goalkeeping error to make it 3-0.
Meuselwitz got on the scoreboard
For the second half, Marco Rose freshened things up by bringing on Din Klapija and Pepe Böhm. After less than ten minutes of play, Cenny Neumann replaced Faik Sakar, who was substituted after a foul.
The second half started was less intensity on behalf of the hosts, with captain Kevin Kampl and company struggling to capitalize against the visitors’ pressing. ZFC began upping the tempo, but the goal they were after kept eluding them. In the 74th minute, Tim Kießling would make the 3-1 a reality after sending his shot to the back of the net.
For the final quarter of an hour, our coach shuffled things around: Voufack, Schößler, Kampl and Gebel left the pitch, with Damala, Tomasevic, Heyer and Saric coming on.
After the substitutes came into action, RBL began ramping up the pressure once again. In the 81st minute, Silva had a try from the edge of the penalty box, something Klapija’s intended to follow up to as well, with visiting keeper Sedlak springing into action to avoid any more damage and preserving the final 3-1.
