Draw in Bavarian Swabia!
The squad from Fuggerstadt started hot and disrupted RB Leipzig’s buildup early. But after a quarter of an hour, Leipzig took over. Dani Olmo gave the first warning shot on goal with a header, FCA keeper Finn Dahmen reacted strongly (18th). Xaver Schlager then tried from a distance (31′).
After a tight and tense opening half hour, the match really picked up speed. Augsburg’s Ruben Vargas hit the side netting to send a warning shot. Then it was Phillip Tietz who hit home a rebound from a Peter Gulasci save to take the lead (35′). But RBL responded just four minutes later when David Raum found space to put in a signature curling ball in to the head of Lois Openda, who rose highest and headed home to equalize.
It was an ideal start to the second half for Leipzig. Dani Olmo drove forward from midfield into the box and Benjamin Sesko put a deadly header on target to take the lead (52′). It was only a few moments later when our number 30 threatened again, but he hit the post. Xavi also had a chance to extend the league, but in an up-and-down game, Ermedin Demirovic came right back the other way and hit a powerful shot under the crossbar after an hour to make it 2-2.
It went back and forth, with both teams playing to win. In the 81st minute, Lois Openda had a great chance to score a brace, but unfortunately, Dahmen got in front of his penalty kick to keep it out.And with that, both teams had to settle with a point a piece.
