The institute, which was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in Granada, Spain, provides interested parties with a global platform in order to advance the development of football at the highest scientific level. The objective behind it is to continuously keep up to date and then disseminate expertise in the sports science field in order to enhance the performance and health of footballers.
TSG Hoffenheim are the first German football club to join this scientific network. The FSI is already working with various top-flight football clubs in Spain (including Valencia), Portugal (SC Braga) and France (Olympique Marseille).
As part of the cooperation, the TSG staff will have the opportunity to complete online Master’s degree programmes in the fields of medicine, athletics, rehabilitation, nutrition, physiotherapy or coaching free of charge. In return, TSG will open its doors to students, who will be able to complete training sessions led by TSG specialists in a real-life environment, thereby gaining valuable practical experience.
“We’re looking forward to the cooperation with the FSI, an international pioneer when it comes to linking science and football practice. We can only benefit from access to this large, international network,” said Dr. Sascha Härtel, Head of Performance Diagnostics and Data Management at TSG Hoffenheim.
“We’re very excited to embark on this journey together with TSG Hoffenheim. This partnership illustrates the strong commitment from both parties to the continuous development of sports science in football,” added FSI co-founder Dr. Jesús Olmo.
