Grischa Prömel: “We came here to get three points, hence why the result is frustrating. We played a good game in the first half and had several situations that we could’ve finished off even better. Wolfsburg were a bit more pressing in the second half. The draw was probably fair in the end. We just have to close out our matches. We’ve already realised in recent weeks that one good half isn’t enough. We need consistency over 90 minutes, plus more efficiency. We’re aware of the situation and have different expectations. But we step on the gas every week, train well and come up with a good match plan every week. But we have to execute it better on the pitch. We can only do that if we’re focused for 90 minutes and give it our all. And then I’m confident that we’ll turn things around soon and hopefully get the next three points against Köln.”
Wout Weghorst: “It was a fair draw. The game was very open, both teams had their chances. We created some very good opportunities, but we needed to extend our lead after the opening goal. We’re not managing to win games at the moment. We work on changing that during the week, but we haven’t found the key yet.”
Oliver Baumann: “We should’ve taken a bigger lead in the first half. But at the end of the day, the draw is fair. We haven’t won for a while now, but we still have to say that a point here is okay for us. We mustn’t go crazy; we were a unit on the pitch and we fought. We have to stick to our path; that’s always made us strong and it will now too.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo: “If you look at the match in isolation, you accept the point after a decent performance. But in light of our situation and the fact we’ve been waiting for the next win for a long time, it is bitter. It was end-to-end throughout the game; on balance, it was a deserved draw. We need to stick at it and concede fewer goals, they were both avoidable. Two goals in Wolfsburg should actually be enough to get the three points. The team’s attitude was positive; we acted as a group and performed as a unit. The fans also supported us after the game, which gives us a good feeling.”
Niko Kovac (VfL Wolfsburg coach): “The boys didn’t get their reward with a victory. We twice came from behind but made mistakes too easily for the conceded goals. But I have to pay my team a compliment, they gave everything and worked their way back into the game well. Hoffenheim initially caused us plenty of problems with their system, but then we switched it up and things went significantly better for us. I’m pleased with the way we performed today. We’ll soon reap the rewards.”
