Prömel: “A whole lot was lacking”

Grischa Prömel: “It was not good enough. A whole lot was lacking today. Darmstadt were the better team today, we defended poorly and made it too easy for the visitors to get into the final third. We did not pen Darmstadt in at the back enough and did not get any composure in our play. It was too little, on and off the ball; Jay and I should’ve each scored a goal of course and then we would’ve probably won. But the match today showed that we’re still lacking. It’s a whole lot. We’ll try to do things better in the second half of the season but there’s still lots of room for improvement.”

Ihlas Bebou: “It’s a case of two points dropped. It was not a good game from us, but you have to win a match like that when you lead three times. We have high standards, that did not meet them. Darmstadt performed well and the draw is perhaps even deserved. We need to learn from it so that it doesn’t happen again. It was a decent half-season, but we should’ve picked up more points. The three points today would’ve helped in that regard. I would’ve much rather come away with three points than two goals for myself. We’re disappointed.”

Pellegrino Matarazzo: “It was a deserved point for Darmstadt. I’m therefore not happy. We were far too passable in defence. The lads did not push through and sat too deep. We didn’t find the right solutions there. We stabilised in the second half but I’m not satisfied with our performance. Energy, freshness and verve – it was missing. Despite the performance, we had a huge opportunity to make it 4-2 and should’ve won. That’s very bitter. The team is also unsatisfied – with the result and the performance. It’s also difficult for me to process. We won’t achieve objectives like that. These slip-ups must not happen so often.”

Torsten Lieberknecht (SV Darmstadt 98 coach): “It’s a moment of happiness for us. We rewarded ourselves with an impressive team performance today. Apart from the conceded goals, we showed a very good structure and did not offer up much. The first two goals in particular were nicely created. This game makes up for what has happened in recent weeks. Today we picked up a point because the lads implemented what we set out to do. It was a great team performance. I believe that this draw will give us a lot of strength.”
