Florian Grillitsch: “It was a very important win today. We were also close in the last few games, but today we were clinical in front of goal. We need to defend against set-pieces better, but did not concede any goals from open play away to BVB. Not everyone manages that. If you then score three goals away, that should normally be enough. We’re ecstatic with the victory. The adjustments at half-time bore fruit, hence we why won efficiently here. We’re happy, hopefully this will now give us a boost.”

Oliver Baumann: “I completely forgot about my milestone because so much happened. But that’s also completely okay because I’m extremely proud of the team. The last weeks have been disappointing, they were not the results we envisaged. Then we come here to BVB and put in an away performance like that. We came back and did not give up. We didn’t during the week either, even though everything was not so easy. The way we fought as a team, how united we were out there and how we stuck to our path – I’m really ecstatic and we can be proud of that. We still have pressure, that hasn’t gone away. But I hope we can create an atmosphere that can turn things around. We now have to keep getting points.”

Dennis Geiger: “It was something very special for me today. I’ve waited for nine months, trained for three weeks and I’m feeling very good after a long time out, even though it will still take a little while before I’m at 100% again. The thing I missed the most was being back on the pitch with the lads. And then to win in Dortmund after a long time in the first game – it doesn’t get better. I’m also extremely delighted for the team. It’s not been easy for the lads recently; we showed a super reaction and fought in the second period. It was a very good team performance. We’re all happy today.”

Maximilian Beier: “The first win of the year is important. If you don’t shoot, you can’t score; that’s why I gave it a go. We set out to press up top immediately; that worked well too and that’s how we took the lead. But we need to work on the fact that we then conceded two goals from set-pieces. That hurts. Fortunately, we came out strongly in the second half and turned the match around. Rino showed me during the week how I could create chances against Dortmund and it worked out well.”

Pellegrino Matarazzo: “We did not play good football in the first half, even though we started really well. We then had too many simple possession losses and had to invest too much in the press. We changed the structure at the break and turned the game around as a result. I felt a sense of unity on the pitch, hence why I’m happy for the lads. The decisive factor was that we managed to stop Dortmund’s quick players from dribbling at our defence in the second half. We’ve had so many games in recent weeks that we could’ve won; we’ve been through a tough spell. But the lads always kept their heads up and they were rewarded for that today.”

Edin Terzic (Borussia Dortmund coach): “Congratulations to TSG. It was a very nervous start from us, we were then immediately punished. We nonetheless managed to fight our way back and pose a real goal threat. We then deservedly led at the break. But our positioning frequently wasn’t right; we wanted to coordinate that better in the second half. But we once again did not manage to start the second half well. We have ourselves to blame for this defeat because we gave the opposition the feeling that something was possible here today. We lost the ball too frequently in our build-up and our mistakes were then punished bitterly. A very frustrating day for us with another unnecessary defeat.”
