Grischa Prömel: “We were asking for the equaliser in the second half. But I’m ecstatic that Marius scored a goal like that at the end. The first half was super from us. We had Bremen where we wanted them then. We were too passive in the second half. We have to review what we did wrong. Nonetheless, we had chances in the second half to seal the deal. We have a lot of quality in the team, but we don’t get anything gifted to us. If we keep going like this, let’s see where the journey takes us.”
Wout Weghorst: “It’s always special to win a game through a goal in stoppage time. After the late equaliser, we reacted very well and scored the winning goal. We played a good first half and were very dominant. We dropped off in the second half and could not maintain the level. Fortunately, we still won the game. Overall, we are playing very well this season, building more and more confidence and working well as a team. We have to continue on this path.”
Maximilian Beier: “It’s going well for me at the moment. The team is putting me in good positions and I’m trying to make the best out of it. It’s the best feeling that there is to score a goal. The loan to Hannover did me good. We’re enjoying the moment, it’s going super right now. Let’s see what happens this season. What happens, happens. I’m ready for all challenges.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo: “The team has already shown a few times that we can come back. My feeling was that we were too deep in the second half. Bremen made us run a lot. After the equaliser, we showed a different courage. I always believe in the lads. As a coach, you always want to decide the game. We had a few chances to get peace of mind earlier. My goal is to stabilise the performance of the team at the highest-possible level. We are on a good path and are acting as a unit.”
Ole Werner (SV Werder Bremen coach): “It’s very bitter. The team played strongly in the second half and initially were not rewarded, but then scored in stoppage time. We then have to reproach ourselves for conceding another goal immediately. That shouldn’t happen to us and costs us points. In the second half, we were much more compact and looked completely different to before on the pitch. It was two different halves from both teams.”
