Oliver Baumann: “We didn’t control the game. We conceded two easy goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half and lost the game as a result. It was better after the break, but every counter was a big opportunity for Freiburg. We unfortunately did not break through up top and could have also conceded more goals. A point probably wouldn’t have been deserved today. It’s very frustrating. It was a decent attacking performance, but the chances did not come our way. We need to give away less and create more for ourselves up top. I’m very disappointed.”
Ozan Kabak: “Some phases today were quite good, some less so. It was in those phases that we conceded the goals. We knew at half-time that everything was still possible. The goal was of course a nice moment for me personally, but that doesn’t help. We wanted to win, so we’re very disappointed. We were not good enough in the penalty areas, either up front or at the back. We were not efficient enough up front and not consistent enough in the challenges at the back.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo: “I am of course unsatisfied because the defeat is unnecessary from my perspective. Freiburg got into our half far too easily. We exerted too little pressure on the crossers. Even though the first goal we conceded was unfortunate, the rest of the defending in that situation was not good. It was decent in attack, we created chances for ourselves, but the defending unfortunately proved to be our downfall today.”
Christian Streich (SC Freiburg coach): “We had a few problems in pre-season and didn’t know where we stood. Hoffenheim have very good players and are flexible in their build-up play. We therefore decided on a 4-2-3-1 system. The lads produced a super performance. We had a lot of chances to score and were very present. In the end, it was not an undeserved win for us.”
