The international break has come to an end for the five Hertha players who were away representing their countries. Most players had reason to celebrate, with Dodi Lukébakio and Belgium enjoying particularly good performances. After his two assists earned him the “Devil of the Match” award against Sweden, Lukébakio started in his country’s 3-2 win over Germany on Tuesday evening, playing almost 60 minutes. Despite no direct goal involvements in his second game, the Hertha number 14 can be pleased with his first international break of the season.

Ngankam returns to the starting XI

After making a goalscoring debut off the bench for the Germany U21 team against Japan, Jessic Ngankam was rewarded with a place in the starting XI for their game against Romania. The two sides ended the game goalless after an intense 90 minutes. “We had prepared the team knowing that we’d have little time to play patiently, and that we’d be called into action straight away,” said head coach Antonio Di Salvo. Ngankam played 70 minutes and will be hopeful of another call-up for the U21 European Championship this summer in Georgia and Romania.

Return to Berlin

Stevan Jovetić, Derry Scherhant and Peter Pekarík were also in action and enjoyed wins with their national teams. All the players will now be returning to Berlin and prepare for the next task in the league: an away trip to SC Freiburg on Saturday (01/04/2023, 15:30 CEST).
