SC Freiburg players in international action

Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick has called upon Philipp Lienhart and Michael Gregoritsch once again to represent the country’s senior side, who will travel to Estonia for their EURO qualifier. A few days later, the Austrians will face Germany in a friendly in Vienna. Lienhart and his teammates are currently in second place in Group F ahead of their final qualifying match, one point behind frontrunners Belgium. Austria have already secured their spot in the competition’s finals, which will be played in Germany in 2024, and have the chance of climbing to the top of the group if they are able to beat Estonia on Thursday.

Ritsu Doan and Japan will kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA with a game against Myanmar, before travelling to Syria for their second group game.

Germany U21s coach Antonio di Salvo has called up Merlin Röhl and Noah Atubolu for both EURO qualifiers against Estonia and Poland, which will take place in Paderborn and Essen. The team are currently second in Group D, sitting on six points with two wins under their belts. Poland, who have collected nine points so far, are the current group leaders having played one more game than Germany. The nine group winners as well as the three best teams in second place will qualify for the finals, which will be held in Slovakia in 2025. Despite meaning that he won’t get much of a break, Röhl is looking forward to both of the international fixtures: “The call-up is a great thing for me, even with our packed schedule this season. I’m looking forward to the two upcoming games with the U21s.”

As well as Röhl and Atubolu, Kiliann Sildillia will also be in action for the France U21s throughout the qualifying stages for the U21s EUROs. France, who are currently the leaders of Group H, will take on Austria, who sit five points behind them in third place.
