“It got a bit erratic in the second half and a bit careless towards the end,” said Gregor Kobel in the aftermath of the 5-2 victory against Gladbach. “We’re satisfied with the result and especially satisfied with the first half,” added Edin Terzic. Double goalscorer Sébastien Haller was the focal point. The match reactions.

Edin Terzic (at the press conference): “We’re satisfied with the result and especially satisfied with the first half. Lots of the things we set out to do worked in the first 30 minutes. We were very firm in the challenges, created great chances and goals. But we didn’t always manage to close down the centre and so we were very critical at the half-time interval. We wanted to see the game through in a clean and controlled manner. That didn’t work so well. Now it goes on, there are still two challenges left: the next difficult one awaits us in Augsburg next week.”

Sébastien Haller (to Sky): “We dominated the game for 60 minutes and created lots of chances. The reason it’s going so well for me is a mental one. Every day, I enjoy the fact that I can be here, on the pitch and in the changing room. That’s my current goal: to enjoy everything with the lads. But it’s equally as good to compete at the top of the table. We’re the best team in Germany in 2023.”

Gregor Kobel (to BVB-TV): “Very strong first half. We wanted to make a statement. It got a bit erratic in the second half and a bit careless towards the end. We have to stop that and play both a good first half and a good second half. It can quickly go both ways in football, even if you have a 4-0 lead. Donyell Malen showed once again today what he is capable of. He possesses insane quality; Karim Adeyemi is also performing very strongly.”

Donyell Malen (to Sky): “It was important to win this match. We know how close the title race is. It was a nice victory. I was simply there for the first goal; I had a good feeling after that and we were simply there as a team too. I’m training hard, we as a team are training hard, we’re working hard. The support from the fans is wonderful.”

Karim Adeyemi (to Sky): “We were very dominant, were very lively and found the spaces. It was no longer so good in the second half. In the end, we only care about the three points. We need to win our next games and hope Bayern drop points.”
