English week for Borussia’s junior Bundesliga teams: After their victorious weekend, the U19s will be away to Wuppertaler SV on Wednesday (18:30 CET, Sportplatz Uellendahl) while the U17s will host RW Oberhausen at the Youth Performance Centre at 18:00 CET.

U19 boss Mike Tullberg will be able to return to the coaching zone after serving his suspension in Wuppertal, while Charles Herrmann will return to the squad after serving a ban of his own for picking up a red card. “We must perform from the beginning with the same concentration and intensity as in the second half against Aachen,” demanded Tullberg, adding: “If we don’t give 100%, it will be difficult against any opponent.” He is full of respect for Wuppertaler SV. “We know from the past: the pitch conditions are difficult and on a sporting level, we can expect a team that defends compactly, takes good set-pieces and tries to make an impact with counter-attacks.”

Due to their superior goal difference (+8), BVB occupy pole position in the table ahead of Borussia Mönchengladbach (6 points, +6) and MSV Duisburg (6/+3) after two rounds of matches. Wuppertal are still waiting on their first point of the campaign. The promoted outfit lost their opening game of the season 3-0 against 1. FC Köln and then lost 4-3 away to Viktoria Köln, whom the U19s will go on to face at the Youth Performance Centre on Sunday (11:00 CET).

Marco Lehmann hoping for second win

The U17s are catching up on their home fixture against RW Oberhausen, which was initially scheduled for last Wednesday. Coach Marco Lehmann was relieved after 3-1 victory at RW Essen – the first win of the season. “That was very important after the unfortunate 3-3 draw in Paderborn. We now want to keep moving forward and establish ourselves towards the top if possible.” He is calling for his players “to press courageously up front, switch the play quickly and exercise a lot of control” against RWO.

However, he is wary of the promoted team’s qualities: “Oberhausen battle passionately. They’re not an opponent that you can beat at a canter.” RWO lost their first three games of the season by the narrowest of margins – 2-1 away to MSV Duisburg and at home to 1. FC Köln, and 3-1 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Marco Lehmann will be without centre-backs Tyler Meiser (promoted to the U19s) and Elias Benkara (tonsillitis). Mussa Kaba, Julian Driedger (both ill) and Nick Cherny (bruised foot) are doubtful too. Nonetheless, we should have enough quality to win this match,” explained Lehmann.

The U17s will then host the reigning Germany B-Junior champions Arminia Bielefeld at the Youth Performance Centre at 11:00 CET on Saturday (26 August). (wiwi)
