A mix of German and English could be heard upon arrival at the training premises in San Diego where the BVB players are training this week. The first session on Tuesday morning was open to the general public.

Public training session

200 fans were permitted to attend and the San Diego, Los Angeles and Brooklyn Borussen BVB fan clubs were among them. Both Germans living in the USA and locals had come to watch the Black & Yellows at work. Yellow was everywhere to be seen in San Diego. Even before the session, the players fulfilled the first autograph requests.

Following a light warm-up the evening before, an intensive session was pencilled in for the BVB players on Tuesday morning. Under the floodlights on Monday evening, they had shaken the tiredness out of their legs following the long flight. Now they were put through passing drills after the warm-up. “Look sharp” assistant coach Armin Reutershahn could be heard calling during the drill, where the objective was to take few touches of the ball. That was followed by a game scenario, before the more than one and a half hour session ended with some demanding runs. “The box-to-box runs were surprisingly demanding. I don’t know what that was down to. We were panting slightly there. But ultimately that’s what we’re here for,” said Julian Brandt afterwards.

The recently injured Jamie Bynoe-Gittens completed parts of the session, while Julien Duranville and the injured Giovanni Reyna followed an individual programme. In his homeland, American Reyna was in particular demand when it came to the autograph and selfie sessions afterwards.
