November will kick off with a DFB-Pokal tie and end with a UEFA Champions League game for the Borussia Dortmund first team. There will also be a Bundesliga top match against FC Bayern Munich. And there’s a highlight coming up for the women’s handballers too.
Wednesday 1 November (18:00 CET): BVB vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
The cup tie against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is scheduled for the very first day of the month. This Wednesday evening’s fixture at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK at 18:00 CET will determine which of the two teams progresses to the round of 16. BVB ran out 6-1 victors against TSV Schott Mainz in mid-August in the first round of this year’s competition. Hoffenheim qualified for the second round courtesy of a 4-1 away win against VfB Lübeck.
Saturday 4 November (18:30 CET): BVB vs. Bayern Munich
SIGNAL IDUNA PARK witnessed an evening for the history books in this fixture last season – even if the top-of-the-table clash did end without a winner. After a breathtaking 95 minutes, Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich drew 2-2. Having been 2-0 behind, Youssoufa Moukoko and then Anthony Modeste – with the last kick of the game – scored to snatch a deserved point and send the temple into raptures. Now it’s time for a reunion in the top match of Matchday 10.
Tuesday 7 November (18:45 CET): BVB vs. Newcastle United
BVB’s first meeting with Newcastle United took place in the north-east of England at the end of October. After a convincing first half and an exciting second one, the Black & Yellows won 1-0 thanks to Felix Nmecha’s strike and came back into contention in a difficult Group F. BVB had previously lost away to Paris Saint-Germain and drawn at home to AC Milan. Their first victory of the Champions League campaign saw the Black & Yellows move up to second place in the group.
Saturday 11 November (15:30 CET): VfB Stuttgart vs. BVB
VfB Stuttgart have been the surprise package of the opening months. Having almost been relegated last season, the Swabians have established themselves in the leading pack and occupy third place in the table after nine matches – level on points with BVB, who are in fourth place. BVB’s most recent visit to Stuttgart was not all that long ago: the Black & Yellows travelled to VfB in April in the final phase of last season and spurned a 2-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3. Reyna fired BVB 3-2 ahead in the second minute of stoppage time, only for Silas to complete the scoring five minutes later.
Sunday 12 November (14:00 CET): Women’s handballers vs. HC Dunarea Braila
After sensationally winning the bronze medal last term, the women’s handballers are aiming to take part in the EHF European League again this season too. If they are to do so, they must overcome one final obstacle in the last qualifying round. HC Dunarea Braila from Romania will travel to the Helmut-Körnig-Halle for the first leg at 14:00 CET on Sunday 12/11. Anyone wanting to attend live can buy tickets here.
Saturday 25 November (15:30 CET): BVB vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach
After another international break, BVB will play their next Bundesliga match at home to the other Borussia from the Lower Rhine. The latest clash with Mönchengladbach is still fresh in the memory. The Black & Yellows won 5-2 on home turf on Matchday 32 of the 2022/23 season. The year before, they even managed a 6-0 win. The trend in home games is clearly in BVB’s favour: the last time Gladbach won in Dortmund was in March 2014 and there have since been 10 home victories across all competitions.
Tuesday 28 November (21:00 CET): AC Milan vs. BVB
The home game against Newcastle will be followed by a trip to Milan for the second Champions League game of the month and the penultimate match of the group phase. The Black & Yellows will be hoping to put themselves on the path to the last 16 in Italy, ahead of their final fixture at home to Paris Saint-Germain. The most recent meeting between the teams at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in March 2003 ended in a 1-0 victory for BVB. Jan Koller scored the goal of the day.
