Nico Schlotterbeck scored the opener in the 160th Ruhr derby, which finished 2-2. He spoke to Sky after the final whistle.

Nico Schlotterbeck on the balance of play:
“It was a very heated, great atmosphere and yet we had them almost completely under control in the first half. After it went to 2-1, Jamie had a killer chance to score. If he makes it 3-1 then, it’s over. In the second half, you simply have to close the game out. Then it’s not a question of what if. Nonetheless, you cannot concede the two goals. Now they’re celebrating the 2-2 like a victory.”

…on his opening goal:
“The fact that Schalke were man-marking meant that we central defenders had a free run at the defence and often had a free shot at goal too. The fact I then hit the ball so well was of course good. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough today.”

…on the equaliser for 2-2:
“It was more a coordination error between myself and Julian. He was counting on me and I was counting on him.”
