Borussia Dortmund’s female footballers have won the double, lifting the Kreispokal to go with their league title, just as they did last year. In the cup final, Sulewski’s team ran out comfortable 7-0 (6-0) winners against Eintracht Dorstfeld. Mandy Reinhardt (3 goals, 2 assists) and Mia Macarena Bedarf (1 goal, 3 assists) shone in particular in the successful defence of the cup.
“Double winners, double winners! Hey! Hey,” was the chant that echoed through the Sportpark Brechten. The final against SV Eintracht Dorstfeld became a demonstration of BVB’s domination in this competition.
After just four minutes, the ball was in the back of the Dorstfeld net for the first time. Mia Macarena Bedarf dribbled from the left to the by-line and found Mandy Reinhardt in the middle, who turned the ball home from close range. The 2-0 that followed just seven minutes later came from the same source: Bedarf down the left and a cut back from the by-line. This time, it was Kimberly Becker who fired the ball into the net. And by the time Reinhardt had completed a counter-attack to make it 3-0, the approximately 500 fans watching the action knew that BVB would be lifting the Kreispokal once again later that day. “We played really good football in the first half,” said coach Thomas Sulewski.
The result was already clear in the closing stages of the first half thanks to a flurry of goals: Marie Grothe was found free with just Eintracht keeper Lara Stratmann to beat (40 minutes), Reinhardt bagged her hat-trick (41 minutes) and Ana Louisa Haslsteiner, once again set up by Bedarf (45 minutes) extended the scoreline to 6-0. “Left wing is not my normal position, but it was fun, and I’m pleased to see how it all went for us today,” said Bedarf after the match.
After the sides changed ends, Grothe initially tried to be too precise, striking the post in the 50th as well as in the 62nd minute. In the 66th minute, Bedarf was rewarded for her outstanding performance when she rounded off strong build-up play from Vanessa Kuhl and Reinhardt to make it 7-0. That would turn out to be the last goal of the game. “It just makes me incredibly proud to coach this team because they never give up and always go full-throttle,” said Sulewski after winning the double again.
