Borussia Dortmund’s women’s football team won 5-0 (3-0) away to Sportfreunde Sümmern on Matchday 9 of the Landesliga. Danelle Tan provided two goals and an assist to help the team to a commanding victory.
Scoring five goals away from home seems to be becoming a tradition for the BVB women. In their fourth away game of the season, the Black & Yellow once again found the back of the net five times. Only in Drolshagen on the first day of the season did the league leaders concede a goal. In Sümmern, BVB kept a clean sheet thanks to the efforts of goalkeeper Sandra Schröer.
Compared to last week, BVB coach Thomas Sulewski made three changes to the starting XI. Virginia Glänzer came in for the ill Nora Rechenbach at the heart of defence, while Lisa Gomulka and Danelle Tan replaced Marie Grothe and Lea Auffenberg (who both dropped to the bench). The Black & Yellows started in style and had several good chances early on, such as a headed effort by Gomulka in the 7th minute and a solo run by Marah Tayeh in the 9th. It was Tayeh who provided the assist for the opening goal of the day, scored by BVB teammate Marjana Naceva.
There was a scare a few moments later, as Glänzer went down clutching her hip without coming into contact with an opponent and had to be substituted a short time later. With BVB playing a goal down, Tan connected with an assist from Merle Greulich to score BVB’s second goal of the day in the 21st minute. Shortly before the break, Gomulka increased the lead to 3-0 after an assist from the team’s creative spark Tan. “We got off to a good start, scored three goals in the first half and did well overall,” commented Tan after the match.
Tan was also the one who put the game beyond any doubt in the second half, with a header after a delivery by Naceva: “I’m happy to have scored again. Especially the link-up with Manu on the second goal was great, because we practised that in training.” The Black & Yellows comfortably controlled the remainder of the encounter, all without posing too much of a goal threat.”
In the 85th minute, Ana Louisa Haslsteiner put the final touch on a well-executed piece of combination play by substitutes Ann-Katrin Lau and Carolin Kaul to make it 5-0. That this remained the final score was all down to birthday girl Schröer. The goalkeeper, more or less unoccupied all game long, made a brilliant save in the 88th minute to deny Angelina Weber, who was through one-on-one with her. “It was a mature and confident performance from us over the full duration of the game. We were strong in the tackles , moved the ball well and gave a united team performance,” said Sulewski as he assessed the away win.
The result means the BVB women’s team retain their position atop the Landesliga table. They will next be in action at the Rote Erde stadium this Sunday (29 October), when they host SV Hohenlimburg.
